The Crosscut Saw and Mt Buggary

(Photo - Taken near Vallego Ganter Hut - Feb 2006 while having a cuppa, Location, Location.....Again....
"Crosscut Saw Left across to Mt Buggary and Mt Speculation on the right")

The Crosscut is a knife edge ridge where you walk along the top for a few Kms and the views are great. Mt Buggary is on the south of the Crosscut Saw. On the top there a couple of great views but the open areas of the Crosscut Saw make it hard to keep looking at the track. This is a very open area but if the weather is good the views across to Mt Howitt are unreal!!! Just North of the Crosscut Saw is Mt Speculation which is another great location where you could camp. The track along the ridge over Mt Buggary and onto Mt Speculation is easy to follow however there are no track signs or snow poles as this is a part of a Wilderness area of the Australian Alps Walking Track.

On the Southern end there is a intersect with a track which heads west down toward Mt Thorn however I have no information for this track yet.

There is no water available between Mt Speculation and Mt Howitt (You are on a ridge so you have to accept this) however for most of the year there is water available down at Macalister Spring next to Vallejo Gantner Hut and at the top of Camp creek on the North side of Mt Speculation however these can dry up during summer. There is a water tank down at Howitt Hut some 8kms from Vallejo Gantner Hut however you may want to boil the water before drinking it. There is 2wd access to the hut and the park area from the road from Licola.
