Bushwalking is a very popular activity world wide and North East Victoria - Australia has many walking tracks as well as old cattlemen men huts to be enjoyed. From the top of Mt Bogong to the valleys below this area is a bushwalkers delight with beautiful views, great camping areas and towns to get back into civilisation. One of the biggest walks in Australia is the Australian Alps Walking Track a 680km track from Walhalla in Victoria through New South Wales and into the Australian Capital city. As well as this monster of a walk there are many short walks ranging from small day hikes to extended walks of various lengths to accommodate the more adventurous.

With the continuing expansion of the Mobile phone network, mobile phone access is now worth mentioning. On various walking tracks mobile phones work very well and should be considered when working out what to take with you. Also U.H.F. CB access is very good on many walking tracks and should also be considered, with may U.H.F. repeaters located in the area they can provide an important link to emergency personal should something go wrong. With all communication equipment always remember that temperature, weather and location can all effect performance. If you do need to use such equipment try to get onto a ridge or peak as the higher you can get above the trees etc the better chance you have of getting your signal out.

Note - Various satellite systems now can be used by members of the public. These include GPS for navigation, Satellite phones which provide contact from just about anywhere and EPIRBS when it really hits the fan!

The walks detailed on this site link to each other so as if walking you can "walk" via the links to many different tracks and locations, even travel via these links from Mt Bogong to Mt Feathertop.

If you get lost!! - Press HOME to return to this main page. (Wouldn't this be great in real Bushwalking.)
