Mt. Feathertop is one of Victoria's must popular Bushwalking destinations. With spectacular views from the summit and excellent camping areas nearby it attracts visitors from far away as well as many local people who visit it after living under it's shadow. Named after the appearance of a feather formed by the spring snow sitting in its many gullies possible like in the photo below, it rises to an altitude of 1922 M with several walks heading to it. To the north can be seen M.U.M.C. Hut. which sits at the top of the North-West Spur track. You can also see Mt Cobbler south of Mt Buffalo which is one of the most noticeable mountians around. Just out of sight but only some 40mins away Federation Hut sits at the top of Bungalow Spur which rises out of Harrietville. The Razorback starts at Diamantina Hut on the Mt. Hotham Rd. and is one of this areas most spectacular walks and finishing just below the summit with only a 20 min walk to the top. Looking north east you get a great view of Mt. Fainter north and south which is another great hiking area.

Both of the Huts provide shelter and can be used as emergency shelters should the weather turn hostile. All walkers should be prepared and carry tents. Don't rely on the huts. Also walkers should carry water and waterproof clothing, See Essentials for more information. There is a spring located on the north side of Mt. Feathertop but this can dry up in a hot and dry summer so walkers must carry enough for their walk.

The summit is open and very exposed so if the weather is bad walkers should consider staying in their camps but in good weather, once on the top you can find it very hard to turn and return to your camp - Due to the wonderful views! With Mt. Buffalo just across the valley and Mt Bogong rising only some 64 metres above it is one of the top spots to visit and many walkers find it impossible to resist the temptation to return.
